Razor Turtle Introduction
Razor Turtle

The Razor Turtle is a member of the genus Musk Turtle. It is the largest and omnivorous. It likes to lie on rocks or trees in lakes and enjoy the sun. Bath, a towering spine is its greatest feature.

1. Appearance

It is difficult to find traces of the lateral vertebrae on the carapace of adults. The first vertebral shield is long, narrow and prominent. Expanded to the front end, no matter what, it did not touch the second edge shield. The length of the second vertebral shield is variable. Sometimes the length and width are almost the same, and sometimes they are equal in length. The last 3 vertebral shields are usually stretched in length, while the fifth vertebral shield expands laterally and posteriorly. The color of the carapace is generally light brown and orange, with obvious black freckles or radial stripes. There is a black border behind each shield, but all of these will gradually fade over time. The perfect yellow plastron lacks the throat shield, which is different from the mud turtle and other musk turtles. It has these 10 shields instead of the conventional 11. A relatively hazy hinge cover is located between the thoracic shield and ventral shield, and there is a small groove at the end of the bar shield. The size arrangement of the plastron is as follows: bar shield>abdominal shield>chest shield>rib shield>hip shield. The head is of medium size, with a long mouth and a slightly hook-shaped upper jaw. The beak above the mouth is forked, and there is a pair of tentacles on the chin. The skin is often light gray or brown and pink with black freckles scattered around it.

The male has a long and thick tail, its penetration hole is located behind the edge of the carapace, and there are rough-like and well-scaled combinations on the thighs and lower limbs. The female's tail is shorter, and the genital pore is within the edge of the rear carapace.
